The short answer: if the container sits on your own driveway or private property, you don't need a permit anywhere we deliver. Permits come into play only when a container has to sit on a public street or right-of-way.

Private property: no permit needed

A driveway, a backyard, a private lot, or a construction site on private land doesn't require a placement permit in any jurisdiction we serve. This covers the large majority of our residential deliveries.

Public street placement: check with the city or parish

If a container needs to sit at the curb or on a public right-of-way instead, a temporary permit may be required. For an address inside Slidell's own city limits, that's the City of Slidell's own permitting office. Outside Slidell, each of the other places we serve handles right-of-way permitting differently depending on how that place is actually governed - which is not the same everywhere.

A quick jurisdiction note

St. Tammany Parish is not one uniform government - it's a mix. Covington, Mandeville, Pearl River, Abita Springs and Madisonville are each their own incorporated municipality with their own city or town hall; Covington is the parish seat and Louisiana's larger incorporated cities like it and Mandeville run under a home rule charter, while Pearl River, Abita Springs and Madisonville operate under Louisiana's Lawrason Act, the state's standard mayor-and-aldermen structure for smaller towns. Eden Isles, Lacombe and Goodbee are genuinely unincorporated - they have never formed their own municipal government - so any street-placement permit question there goes straight to St. Tammany Parish government in Covington. None of that changes whether a driveway placement needs a permit - it never does - but it does change which office to call for a street placement.

Louisiana doesn't run on Texas-style MUDs or ETJs

If you've lived somewhere with Municipal Utility Districts or an Extraterritorial Jurisdiction, Louisiana's system genuinely works differently. Louisiana parishes and their municipalities don't use those mechanisms; incorporation status here is simply either its own city or town, or unincorporated parish land governed directly by St. Tammany Parish. We looked this up specifically for our own service area rather than assuming it matched anywhere else.

Digging or footing work

If your project involves any digging, call Louisiana 811 (811 or la1call.com) first so underground lines get located before a shovel goes in the ground. This is separate from any container placement permit.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit if the dumpster sits on my driveway?

No. A container on private property, including a driveway, doesn't require a permit anywhere we deliver.

Does the permit office differ outside Slidell?

Yes. Covington, Mandeville, Pearl River, Abita Springs and Madisonville each run their own separate permitting office as incorporated municipalities. See our service area page for the right link per location.

What about Eden Isles, Lacombe or Goodbee?

All three are genuinely unincorporated communities with no municipal government of their own, so any street-placement permit question there goes directly to St. Tammany Parish government.

Who do I call before digging?

Louisiana 811 at 811 (or la1call.com), before any digging or footing work, so underground utility lines get located first.
